How long have you had your business in Hout Bay?
We started off in April 2018, we thought we would have slow gradual trickle into the market here in Hout Bay and within the first week of launch we were fully booked for Easter. So we started off with a big bang and we realised that there’s really a demand in Hout Bay.
Tell us about your business?
Hout Bay Breeze is a 7 bedroom guest house, we are obviously a Bed & Breakfast, we just pride ourselves in service, we have two amazing living staff, who are here for the guests needs from the very moment they walk in the door. We also pride ourselves in a freshly cooked breakfast every morning morning and being child friendly. I think there’s quite a shortage of guest houses in the Western Cape that are child-friendly, we bend over backwards when guests have requirements for their children.
What have been some of your challenges:
Currently Covid, I mean it’s heart-breaking just to see how you growing a business and getting some attention from customers, people writing reviews and then all of a sudden, closed to the public! with staff, there’s not much to do over the week. It’s a challenging to cover expenses and breaking even. Can’t wait for Covid to be gone, we are dying to have our customers back.
How has your business impacted the communities of Hout Bay?
I have spoken to Brent from Karbonkelberg Tours, he does tours and starts right outside our doorstep and walk straight to the beautifull Sand Bay and Llandadno. We would love to host some of the guests that can start their walks and guided tours right outside our guest house. We and make sure all of our suppliers are local, and we quite frankly depend on the community because our entrance is right through the community, so a lot of our guest compliment the smiley faces that meet them when driving up Karbonkelberg and atlantic skipper drive.
What are your hopes for your Business in the future?
I hope for returning guest, I can’t wait to see friendly faces returning because they love their stay here. We would like to broaden out our footprint, it’s relatively new guest house.
What is your advise for an entrepreneur looking to start a business?
You have to be thick-skinned, you must not over-think things, you have to offer good services. Staff is really important they have to be super dependable.
How important is being online in your business?
Coming from a traditional marketing background, I was some what against online marketing and I’ve realised especially with our South Africans they love being online and sharing photos. Social media is huge at the moment.
