South Africa has one of the worst functioning education systems in the world, and an unemployment rate among young adults of almost 50%.
Almost 70% of students leave school without any formal qualification.
The Social Project is an NPO which operates iLearning Centres across the country; places where a local community member receives a sustainable income to operate a tablet-based learning centre for children aged 6 to 18.
These students pay a small amount (US$4,50 a month) to receive hour-long extra lessons on tablets every weekday. These lessons focus on the key subjects of English, maths, science and computer technology, as we strive to develop entrepreneurial – or at the very least employable – citizens.
Our goal: 10 000 jobs, helping 1 million children to attend 10 000 centres across South Africa.
